<p style="border:groove" "border-color:#3366FF">'Tell Me Where It Hurts' by Nick Trout. This book was amazing! I laughed, I cried, but mostly some of the tales of profound love between humans and animals, gave me chills. Dr. Nick Trout is the vet you wish you had, calling your pet "Cute Thing You.." and working with skill and compassion to keep your animal friend happy and healthy. In the book Dr. Trout condenses his 25 years of veterinary practice into a single very busy day, which starts at 2:47 a.m. with an emergency wake-up call. A 10-year-old German Shepherd with a life-threatening stomach problem requires emergency surgery. Even with a stomach about to burst, the old dog wags her tail when they meet. The book ends late at night, at 10:02 p.m., with this same old dog. What a journey in between.

'Animals in Spirit: Our Faithful Companion' by Penelope Smith. This eBook is a beautiful, heartfelt, and sensitive guide to animals' perspectives on the death and dying process, as well their experiences in the spiritual dimension after leaving the physical body. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has loved and lost an animal. There is a wonderful exercise for helping people to connect with the spirits of their animal friends who have died, as well as a beautiful grief and memorial ritual contributed by animal communicator Barbara Janelle. My favorite passage in the book is at the very end, in a poetic inspiration that came through Penelope, which states, in part: "Flow with spirit, ever-changing in its guises. See the wildflowers bloom and die and give their seeds to the Earth. Nothing ever really dies or fades. Everything dissolves into unity and flows into another sea or shower or puff of air". <p style="border:groove" "border-color:#3366FF">'Rescuing Sprite' by Mark R. Levin. This book is just what the title says it's about...the joy and anguish of love. I read the entire book when I received it because I couldn't put it down, except of course to wake my 16 year old Kitty to hug and kiss her (no, she was not happy about that). I commend Mark for sharing so much of his personal life with us and anyone who listens to him KNOWS this is not what he does. This book, by a tough conservative talk show host, is as emotional a book as I have ever read. Anyone who has ever felt the loss of a pet will relate to the utter anguish that the author portrays in a sensitive, well-written way.

'The Last Season' by Eric Blehm. This eBook is an excellent story about one person's love for the Sierra and the special wilderness areas of the National Parks. Eric Blehm has told a page-turning story of an amazingly overlooked, dedicated backcountry wilderness ranger that takes place in some of the most amazing wilderness in the world. I finished it and I wanted more. Blehm gets it right in his depiction of the Sierra Nevada. <p style="border:groove" "border-color:#3366FF">'Building A House Day-By-Day' I found this eBook informative but also entertaining and an easy read. I liked it because it was the real deal -- not written by a builder looking to get you to spend more money on a home. This Title caught my eye because I have some family building a guesthouse on their property and are not a reading buff like me. I took the time to see if this book would be helpful and worth recommending. I am glad I did for I get thank you calls weekly for the suggestion!

'Hugs For Gardeners' Funny story as to why I read this book. I was watching the History Channel about Three Months ago and came across this show about people who grew Giant pumpkins. Yes, that is right… Giant pumpkins. What I found interesting was the obsession and Love that these people had for growing pumpkins. 1,000 pound pumpkins. I have not been much for gardening. House plants for the most part and half hazard at that. I didn't know that watching your garden grow is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Connecting you to the Earth. <p style="border:groove" "border-color:#3366FF">'Rising Tide' Man versus the mighty Mississippi River! The river is freakishly powerful, seemingly a living thing with an intent to go where it pleases. I had never heard of the Mississippi flood before picking up this book. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, John Barry has become a great narrative and he deserves his new visibility. Barry tells his story with painstaking research and narrative of 75 years surrounding and including 1927. This is a GREAT book worth your time to read. They say, that in order to know the future, you must study the past. Too bad we're still not paying attention !!!!!!!!!!!
'Savage Peace' covers an era in American history I know relatively little about, which brings me back to my point about studying the past. The year 1919 is fascinating. The book does a wonderful job of describing how dramatic this era was. 'Savage Peace' reads like a novel with heroes, villains, treachery, barbarity, and tragedy. One of the best things about this book is that it causes readers to be curious about some of the people and events it touches upon. It leaves you wanting to read ten more like it!

Savage Peace: Hope and Fear in America, 1919 eBook edition
by Hagedorn, Ann

Written with the sweep of an epic novel and grounded in extensive research into contemporary documents, Savage Peace is a striking portrait of American democracy under stress. It is the surprising story of America in the year 1919. In the aftermath of an unprecedented worldwide war and a flu pandemic, Americans began the year full of hope, expecting to reap the benefits of peace. But instead, the fear of terrorism filled their days. Bolshevism was the new menace, and the federal government, utilizing a vast network of domestic spies, began to watch anyone deemed suspicious. A young lawyer named J. Edgar Hoover headed a brand-new intelligence division of the Bureau of Investigation (later to become the FBI). Bombs exploded on the doorstep of the attorney general's home in Washington, D.C., and thirty-six parcels containing bombs were discovered at post offices across the country. Poet and journalist Carl Sandburg, recently returned from abroad with a trunk full of Bolshevik literature, was detained in New York, his trunk seized. A twenty-one-year-old Russian girl living in New York was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for protesting U.S. intervention in Arctic Russia, where thousands of American soldiers remained after the Armistice, ostensibly to guard supplies but in reality to join a British force meant to be a warning to the new Bolshevik government. In 1919, wartime legislation intended to curb criticism of the government was extended and even strengthened.
